The Division of Research and Economic Development is proud to announce Dr. Tonya R. Hargett as Director of Research Compliance and Ethics. Dr. Hargett was the founding director of the Office of Undergraduate Research and led development of that office since 2014. She previously served as the university’s compliance officer for research involving animals, biological agents and radioactive materials. She has over 25 years of extensive experience within the laboratory animal science/biomedical research field and served in positions of leadership within several professional organizations. She serves on the board of directors for the North Carolina Association for Biomedical Research and is the university coordinator for The Leadership Alliance.
The director of research compliance and ethics oversees and administers N.C. A&T’s regulatory compliance for research involving human subjects, animals, biological agents, and radioactive materials; export controls compliance; and management of conflicts of interest for research. Additionally, the director serves as the university’s research integrity officer and facilitates investigation and resolution of allegations of research misconduct, and develops and implements education and training programs for the responsible conduct of research.
